About Us
Sheepscot River Pottery was started in 1974 out of the back of a pickup truck and is now a second-generation family-owned and operated Maine business. Known for the original Maine Island pattern, it is one of the last hand-thrown pottery studios in the Midcoast region. Our pottery is handcrafted and hand-painted in-house by long-tenured artisans, many of whom have been with SRP for 20+ years. Our patterns depict the beauty that is Maine, bringing joy to homes near and far. Delivering both form and function it is made to withstand everyday use and is microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe.
You can shop our pottery online, in our retail stores in Damariscott, and in our studio in Edgecomb. We hope our one-of-a-kind pottery brings smiles and a piece of Maine to those who love our magnificent state.
OUR LOCATIONS
OUR HISTORY
Started in 1974 by John Okie, our original brochure dates back to back to 1975, when our location was on Main Street in Wiscasset. We moved across the bridge to Edgecomb in 1989 to the small cape of our current location.
John and Karen were married in September 1981. They built the studio in 1986 and additions were added in 1998. Sheepscot River Pottery expanded to its Damariscotta location in April 1995.
