* Lobsters have a hard, protective exoskeleton (shell) that they must shed periodically in a process called molting to grow. * Lobsters have two distinct claws: a crusher claw for breaking shells and a pincher claw for cutting and seizing prey. * Lobsters are decapods, meaning they have ten legs. The front pair are the prominent claws, while the other pairs are used for walking. * While most lobsters are a mottled greenish-brown color, rare variations include blue, yellow, calico, and even albino lobsters. * Lobsters have compound eyes, but they are highly sensitive to light and detect motion more than detail. * Lobsters are commonly found in cold, rocky waters off the coasts of the North Atlantic, particularly New England and Canada.
